I have been working on a new Salsa project. A new band called “Oquestra Formula Latina: The Warriors of Salsa” will be featured in this year’s AZUCAR Latin Festival at THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE in the NODA area. This new band specializes in the “Old School SALSA” from the 70′s and 80′s. It is a collection of the best Salsa musicians in the area.

We know we’ve been a little quiet on this end of the blogosphere, but rest assured, things are chugging along in Ganicland. Here’s the latest:

• We’ve been steadily updating our little tumblelog. As of nowish, we’ve posted two never-before-heard live tracks, one jam session, two unreleased studio tracks, a lo-fi demo, and in-studio pics with more to come. This is a great way to hear and see some of the creative processes behind Soulganic, to experience our growth over the years, and to hold you over until Didactic Interstice (our new album) drops later this year. So, what are you waiting for? Check it out now!

• Speaking of Didiactic Interstice (trust us, we need to type the title this much so we all can remember it, it’s a mouthful), the recording process has been really productive! We’re planning on dropping the first single in June 2012 (which will feature an extra goody or two), so check in often. But don’t worry, we’ll remind you about it.

• And speaking of new(er) music, our buddies Groove8 have announced their latest studio effort is coming soon (it should be great – their last one was fantastic!); our other buddy Rebecca Loebe is wrapping up another fan-funded project (it, too, should be phenomenal); our soul brother #1 ML Caldwell has an album ready for your consumption; our other buddies (and some of their buddies) over at Electric Mountain have been churning out the audio goodness on the regular; and (last but not least) the heart & soul of Soulganic, Lucas Torres, will be taking his Salsa band to the stage of Neighborhood Theatre for the Azucar! celebration in June (more details to come). Phew!

As we begin in earnest to approach the actual recording process, we’re a bit nervous, as we suppose we should be. After all, crafting the expression of things so intimate for public consumption always brings with it an amount of trepidation. We’ll always wonder, insecurely, if our music will be liked. We’ll always retrospectively criticize even our best efforts. For now, though, we’re determined to be in the moment, since this moment’s expression is what the Music will use to come to life.

We know things have been quiet on our end, and we apologize, but don’t think we’ve forgotten about you. In fact, we’ve been keeping things busy with you in mind:

• Work continues on our new album, entitled Didactic Interstice. The concept behind this one is to return to our roots, and create something sparse, energetic, intimate and ultra-funky. We know you’re going to love it! What we’ve been doing is periodically getting together, jamming, seeing what feels right, and using those moments as the jump-off points for our compositions. In fact, it’s at one of those sessions that our good friends Ryan & Keri Walton dropped by and took some pics & some vids of the action. You can see round one of the session photos on the Photos page of our website. Videos will come soon, as will more pics.

• We’ve re-opened our merchandise site, located here. Right now, we have one style of t-shirt for sale, with plans for more versions as the release date for the album approaches. If you’ve connected with us on facebook already, then you know about all of the deals we’ve had already. We’ll continue to promote official Soulganic merch discounts, so keep checking back to make sure you’re rocking the sweetest threads.

• Speaking of the social network, if you haven’t liked us on facebook yet, please make sure to visit our page and do so AND feel free to share the love to all of your friends!
